JIA Zhang-ke

Born in Fengyang, Shangxi Province, China. Studied film at Beijing Film Academy, and his graduation project and feature-length directorial debut "Xiao Wu" won the Wolfgang Staudte Award for best new director at the 1998 Berlin International Film Festival. His second feature "Platform" was selected for competition at the 2000 Venice Film Festival, winning the NETPAC Award for best Asian film, and his third feature "Unknown Pleasure" (02) was screened in competition at Cannes. All of his subsequent works have been screened at either Cannes or Venice. "Still Life"(06) won Venice's Golden Lion trophy for best film. "A Touch of Sin" is his third feature to have screened in competition at Cannes following "Unknown Pleasure" and "24 City" (08), and was awarded Best Screenplay.
