TSUKAMOTO Shinya
(Director)


Born in 1960 in Tokyo. Began making his own films in his junior high school days. Gained international recognition when his "Tetsuo" (89) won the grand prize at Fantafestival in Rome. "Tokyo Fist" (95) received the Sundance Film Festival in Tokyo's grand prize. "Bullet Ballet" (98), "Gemini" (99), and "Vital" (04) were screened at the Venice Film Festival, where "A Snake of June" (02) was awarded a Special Jury Prize in the Controcorrente category, and "Tetsuo: The Bullet Man" (2010) was selected for competition. His previous film "Kotoko", screened at TOKYO FILMeX 2011, won Venice's Orizzonti Award. Other works include "Hiruko the Goblin" (90), "Tetsuo II: Body Hammer" (93), and "Nightmare Detective" (07).
