Winnie LAU
(Head of International Co-Production and Distribution, Jet Tone Films)


Winnie Lau has just joined Jet Tone Films, the production company of Wong Kar Wai, as Head of International Co-Production and Distribution per October 1, 2014. She will be based in Beijing and Hong Kong. Prior to this new position, she worked at Fortissimo Films as Executive VP of International Acquisitions and Sales. She joined the company in 2001 in Amsterdam and Hong Kong, and by 2007 moved to NYC to head the US office as Senior VP of International Sales and Acquisitions. She has been working with various (mini) majors and a variety of independent distributors of a 300+ library and has also worked closely with world-renowned directors such as Wong Kar Wai's IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (2000), Martin Scorsese's SHINE A LIGHT (2008), Julian Schnabel's LOU REED'S BERLIN (2007), and John Cameron Mitchell's SHORTBUS (2006). Prior to Fortissimo Films, she worked at the HK film studio GOLDEN HARVEST as Distribution Manager (Golden Harvest discovered and produced films with Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh, and Jet Li) and as Production Manager at the Jackie Chan film WHO AM I? (1998).

In addition to her career at production and distribution companies, she has programmed for various film festivals and has been on numerous co-production markets panels including Creative Capital, Atlantic Strategic Partners, New York Women in Film and Television, Miami International Film Festival ENCUENTROS and DUBAI IFF. She has also served on various jury duties amongst others at Seattle International Film Festival (2012), Cinemart (Rotterdam IFF, 2012), and Sarasoto Film Festival (2010).

Born in Rotterdam. Lived in Rotterdam, London, Hong Kong, New York and now resides in Beijing. Is fluent in Dutch, English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin and German.
